All Manchu Manoj's films are different in terms of their novel subjects and the way Manoj chooses and handles the character! This time, he is back with another refreshing film Mr. Nookayya, directed by Ani Kanneganti and produced by D.S. Rao with Kriti Kharbanda and Sana Khan as the heroines.
The film revolves around an orphan and mobile phone thief Nookayya (Manoj), who has a strange habit to chat with the owners of the phones he steals and in this way; he makes friendship with a bank employee Anuradha (Kriti Karbanda) and a bargirl Silpa (Sana Khan) with whom he falls in love. Nampally (Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao) and Chee Chaa (Vennela Kishore) are his friends. At one point, he decides to settle down in life by stealing a huge sum.
Meanwhile, Anuradha's husband Kiran (Raja) is kidnapped by a gang led by Shajahan (Murali Sharma) and she gets an MMS from the kidnappers, demanding a huge ransom to release of her hubby. The helpless woman steals Rs. 2 crores from her bank, which is later stolen by Nookayya. He takes the money to Shilpa, but Shilpa and his friend Chaa Chaa escape with the money. Accidentally, Nookayya meets Anuradha and comes to know her situation that she stole the money to save her husband. The kind hearted Nookayya realises his mistake and decide to rescue her husband. What happens next is the crux of the story.
Manoj has given an excellent performance all through the film and his action sequences are superb. Notably, the film has several risky shots in the action scenes and they were choreographed by Manoj himself. His composition 'Pista Pista' is also commendable. Kriti Kharbanda is pretty and Sana Khan is hot. Brahmanandam, Vennela Kishore, Parachuri Venkateswara Rao, Ahuti Prasad, Raja and others lived up to the expectations.
The film's story has some novelty, but the treatment is jaded. The director should have worked more on the screenplay to avoid loopholes. Yuvanshankar Raja used most of his compositions from some of his Tamil films and they are good. The action sequences especially the chase sequences were choreographed by Manoj and they keep you on the edge of the seat. Rajasekhar's cinematography is extraordinary and he has perfectly shot all action scenes and songs. The first half is dragging and not up to the mark. The second half too starts on a dull note, but later it picks up towards the climax. All in all, if the screenplay was written properly, Mr. Nookayya could have been even better.
